WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU
I am qualified in Remedial Massage and the use of ultrasound therapy.
Remedial massage uses the same techniques as Sports Massage. This type of massage focuses on the specific problem and associated muscle groups and often includes acupressure techniques. The aim is to relax the area, reduce pain, increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage and thus promote healing. The treatment may include some stretching and mobilisation.
Remedial Massage can help:
The Musculo-skeletal System:
Back problems
Stiff necks
Osteoarthritis
Rheumatism
Cramps
Sports injuries:
Muscle strains
Joint injuries
Bruising
Swelling
Stress-related problems:
High blood pressure
Headaches
Poor circulation
Tension
Anyone can benefit from massage therapy, whether old or young. It can benefit a sportsperson in maintaining good muscle tone or addressing problems from injury. It can also greatly benefit anyone in stressful occupations, especially those who spend an excessive amount of time at a PC or laptop.
Remedial massage is one of the most effective and readily available ways to prevent and treat muscle injuries, pain and soreness.
Remedial massage is based on the fact that soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) respond to touch. Most pain is myofascial (soft tissue) in origin. Trigger points (sensitive points in muscles, which radiate or refer pain to various parts of the body) can mimic many conditions. Muscles not only move our joints, they stabilise them, and they provide armour for the internal organs, minor problems with these functions cause more pain than most people realise. Most headaches originate in the muscles of the neck and head.
Much abdominal and pelvic pain can be caused by trigger points in the abdominal and pelvic muscles. Low back pain and sciatic pain are far more likely to originate in muscles than in vertebral disc problems.
Although many clients who consult a remedial massage therapist have pain as a result of specific injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injuries, etc.), RSI (repetitive strain injuries) and other work-related problems, many problems also originate in postural (structural) alignment issues that sometimes go back to childhood and adolescence. Using my knowledge and experience I will carry out an assessment and provide appropriate treatment for a wide variety of conditions. In a typical treatment session I will use massage techniques designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues, not dissimilar to those used in sports massage. I may also incorporate some muscle stretching and, if appropriate, use ultrasound for a short period.
SWEDISH MASSAGE
I also offer a more relaxed Swedish massage, using a more gentle technique to promote relaxation and help you deal with stress and stress-related symptoms.
Swedish massage can help to reduce pain and joint stiffness. It has also been shown to often help with osteoarthritis and poor circulation over an extended period. Ideal for physical problems including muscle tension and ligament problems, this massage can be used to relax muscles after physical exertion or to warm and loosen them in preparation for exercise. Massage is a great mental and emotional stress reliever.
Possible Benefits of Swedish Massage:
Reduction in muscle spasm, pain and tension
Release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers
Relaxation and therefore reduction in anxiety
Improved blood circulation
Improved mobility
Reduction of swelling caused by an accumulation of fluid in the tissues
Balancing the overall flow of natural life energy through the body
