About massage
Massage therapy history dates back thousands of years to ancient cultures that believed in its benefits. It is now increasingly recognised as a very valid and hugely beneficial therapy aligning with traditional medicine.
The more enjoyable form of massage is therapeutic or Swedish massage which promotes relaxation and has benefits to many body systems, largely in a preventative way.
Deep tissue massage, as used in Remedial and Sports massage therapy, is a deeper form of massage which addresses structures within the muscle and facia that may be inhibited. Deep tissue massage uses a variety of manual techniques to mobilise various structures and to relieve pain and swelling.
In broad terms any massage can have a positive effect psychologically and physiologically, reducing stress and pain and increasing mobility and flexibility.
